Why Small and Midsize Contractors Choose MDH
Every commercial build comes with a long list of moving parts. Schedules shift. Budgets tighten. Submittals pile up. And somewhere in the middle of all that, the doors and hardware still need to show up on time, meet the specs, and go in without a hitch.
For small and midsize contractors across Nebraska, that's exactly where Midwest Door & Hardware comes in.
We've been supplying commercial doors, frames, and hardware since 1992 — and over that time, we've built a lot of our best relationships with contractors who run lean teams and can't afford surprises. If that sounds like you, here's what working with MDH actually looks like.
A Process That Respects Your Time
Small and midsize contractors don't have a dedicated procurement department. You're estimating, managing, coordinating, and closing all at once. The last thing you need is a vendor who creates more work than they solve.
At MDH, we treat your project like a collaboration, not a transaction. When you bring us a set of plans or a hardware schedule, our team works through it with you — flagging questions early, making sure the spec is buildable, and catching issues before they become change orders. We'll meet you on site if that's what the project needs. We're available for calls when questions come up. And we don't disappear after the quote goes out.
That kind of communication matters. For contractors managing multiple projects, having a reliable partner on the door and hardware side means one less thing to worry about.
Transparent Bids. No Guesswork.
Our estimates are detailed and clear. You'll know exactly what you're getting — which products, which brands, which finishes, and why. We don't bury substitutions in the fine print or pad numbers to protect ourselves later.
We also look for legitimate opportunities to save you money through voluntary alternates. If a spec calls for a particular product and there's an equal-quality alternative that comes in lower — and the architect or owner is open to it — we'll bring that to your attention. That's not corner-cutting. That's doing our job well.
On the flip side, if the spec is firm, we're going to tell you that too. Honesty about what's possible is one of the things contractors tell us they value most about working with MDH.
Real Product Access. Real Lead Times.
We carry a broad inventory of commercial hollow metal doors and frames, architectural hardware, and specialty products from leading manufacturers. For commonly stocked items, we can often turn things around in as little as 2–3 days — and if you have flexibility on product selection, we may be able to get what you need even faster.
For products that need to be ordered, our supplier network is extensive. Most items can be sourced within a week through our wholesale partners. More specialized products may take a few weeks depending on the manufacturer — and we'll always be upfront with you about realistic timelines so you can plan accordingly.
We're also the only commercial door and hardware company with a fabrication shop west of Omaha. That means we can handle custom hollow metal work, minor modifications, and specialty items in-house — which keeps lead times tighter and quality in our hands, not a third party's.
The Brands Your Project Calls For
Whether your project specifies Sargent, Rockwood, Pemko, McKinney, or another leading manufacturer, we work to source what your build requires. We're not going to tell you that you can only have what we happen to stock. Our job is to get the right products for your project — and we take that seriously.
We also carry a full range of door hardware including panic devices, door closers, mortise locks, continuous hinges, electric strikes, and auto operators. For projects with more complex security requirements, we have experience with access control systems and keying services as well. Whatever your opening calls for, we can help you spec it and source it.
Built for Nebraska. Ready for Your Build.
We have offices in Lincoln and North Platte, which means we're genuinely local to the contractors and projects we serve — from Omaha to Scottsbluff and across the I-80 corridor. We know the market, we know the codes, and we know the kind of builds that keep Nebraska moving.
More than 30 years in this industry has taught us that the contractors who keep coming back aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest projects. They're the ones who found a partner they trust — a team that shows up, delivers what they promised, and makes the whole process a little easier.
That's what we're here to do.
